I used to say the North Country was too quiet for me until a pit stop in Lancaster last month
I always told people I needed to be near Boston or Manchester because I figured anything north of Concord was just trees and nothing to do. Last month I stopped in Lancaster on my way back from a hike and ended up at the diner on Main Street for a $9 breakfast. The waitress knew every single person who walked in by name, and some guy at the counter gave me directions to a swimming hole that wasn't on any map. I sat there for an hour and a half and nobody once made me feel like I was from away. Anyone else make that drive up 93 and end up somewhere they didn't plan to stay the whole afternoon?
