Hit a pothole on Route 4 in Durham so bad I think I need an alignment - who pays for this stuff?

I was driving through Durham last week and hit this massive pothole on Route 4 near the UNH campus, felt like my whole car lifted off the ground for a second lol. My buddy says the town is responsible for damages if you file a claim, but another guy told me NH towns never pay out for that kind of thing. Anyone actually had success getting reimbursed for pothole damage around here or is it a waste of time?

Totally feel your pain on this. One of my old coworkers hit a pothole on 108 in Durham (you know, near that weird intersection by the car wash) and it bent his rim and popped a tire. He actually went through the whole claim process with the town, sent them photos and a repair estimate, and somehow got like 200 bucks back after like 4 months of back and forth. So it's possible, but he said it was a huge pain in the neck (and he had to prove the town had known about the pothole for a while, which is the tricky part). Might be worth a shot, but don't get your hopes up too high.

Your car lifted off the ground?! That's insane.
