Drove up 93 to check out Plymouth after a rough winter and got stuck in a mess mid trip
So my wife and I have been talking about moving up to NH for a while now, and back in early April we finally did a scouting run to check out Plymouth and the towns around there. About 40 miles into the drive on I-93, my truck started making this awful grinding noise and I pulled off near exit 23 with smoke coming off the front wheel. Turned out the caliper seized up and ate the whole rotor, so we sat at a gas station in Tilton for almost 4 hours waiting on a tow. The tow guy, real nice older fella, told us it happens all the time to folks coming up from Mass in the spring because of the salt on the roads. We still ended up making it to Plymouth the next morning with a rental, and honestly the town was great, but that breakdown nearly talked us out of the whole idea. Now I'm wondering if the road salt situation up there is as bad as he made it sound, or if he was just trying to make me feel better about my busted truck. Any locals got thoughts on what winter does to your vehicles up north?
