Debate: Is it worth driving 45 minutes for a diner or sticking close to home?

I had a buddy tell me I was crazy for skipping the Littleton Diner just to save 15 minutes of drive time, but after I tried their homemade corned beef hash I kinda saw his point. Now I'm torn between supporting my local place in town versus going the extra distance for better food. What's your cut off for how far you'll drive for a solid breakfast spot?

Used to be one of those "why drive 20 minutes when theres a diner down the street" people. Then I went to this place in Lancaster that makes their own scrapple from scratch. Changed my whole outlook. Now I regularly go 35-40 minutes for a proper breakfast. Its not even just time, the quality is that different.

Youre setting yourself up for a letdown, honestly. @barbaraw16, you drove 40 minutes for scrapple, but what happens when the hype wears off and that place gets inconsistent? Around here, Ive had the "best hash" an hour away turn into greasy mush on a bad day, while the local spot two blocks away nails it every time with fresh eggs and toast. Plus, factor in that two gallons of gas each trip, and suddenly youre paying diner prices plus a hidden fee. A 45 minute drive is a whole routine, and if the coffee is cold when you get there, youre just stuck annoyed in a booth for the next hour.
