A waitress at the Milford diner made me flip on whether small towns are actually friendlier

She said outsiders like me romanticize the wave-and-smile thing, but locals here mostly want to know your family before they trust you, so after 3 visits I'm starting to think she's right and now I'm asking anyone who moved in recently, do you feel more isolated or more welcome in your NH town?
