Why does nobody talk about how much salt you lose sweating in the kitchen?
I was working on a hot panel in an attic last August, drenched and dying, and my buddy handed me a pickle juice. I thought he was messing with me, but he said his wife the cook swears by it for post-shift rehydration. Tried it after a long chili simmer session last weekend and honestly felt way less wiped out. Made me think about all the salt we lose just stirring pots over a stove for hours on end. Anyone else got a weird trick for staying balanced after a heavy cook?

Yo wait, pickle juice is a real thing? I always thought that was just a weird baseball player myth. But yeah, I add a pinch of salt to my water when I'm doing a long sauce or stock simmer, the sweat loss is no joke. Also, try snacking on a few olives or salted nuts while you're cooking. For me, drinking a small glass of plain tomato juice after a heavy kitchen shift totally helps, the salt and potassium together just hit different.
