Took me 4 hours to figure out why my cast iron pan was smoking up the kitchen
Turns out I was using too high heat on the stove and the oil was burning 20 minutes before I even started cooking, has anyone else wasted a whole afternoon on a simple fix like that?

Oh man, have I ever done that with just about everything in my kitchen. I once spent an hour trying to figure out why my rice cooker was making a weird noise, only to realize I forgot to put the lid on all the way. It's like your brain just checks out when you're hungry or something. Cast iron's especially tricky too, I think I burned the seasoning off my skillet three times before I finally looked up a video on it. That smoke alarm going off every 10 minutes really makes you feel like a genius.

Wait... you burned the seasoning off your skillet THREE times? That's almost impressive honestly, I thought I was the only one who could mess up a hunk of iron that badly. My first week with a cast iron I set off the fire alarm so many times my roommate thought I was trying to cook meth or something @hugo_nelson.
