Just noticed a debate over salting pasta water differently

I keep seeing people online say you should salt your pasta water until it tastes like the sea, but my grandma always told me just a pinch is plenty. She made pasta for 40 years in her small kitchen and it always came out great. Last week I tried both methods with the same box of spaghetti and I honestly couldn't taste much difference in the final dish. Am I missing something or is super salty water just a myth home cooks believe?

Tried the same thing myself and got the same result. The sea salt crowd is way overthinking a box of Barilla.

Whoa wait "way overthinking a box of Barilla" is wild @maryh96! I actually gasped when I read that lol. Like I get that we're all just cooking pasta here but some of us really do need to feel like we're doing something special with our cheap dried noodles. The sea salt people act like they're seasoning a prime rib or something when really it's just pasta water. Still though I can't help but toss a generous pinch in there even if the box says not to. It makes me feel fancy okay!
