Hot take: I picked dried beans over canned for the last 3 months and my wallet is weirdly happy

After spending $4.50 a can for chickpeas I finally tried soaking a $2 bag of dried ones and made 4 batches of hummus that tasted better, has anyone else made the switch and found it saves more than they expected?

Gotta call out @veramiller on that one though, burning a pot of beans is like a rite of passage. The real trick nobody talks about is using an instant pot or a slow cooker. I soak my beans overnight then throw them in the slow cooker on low for 6-8 hours while I sleep. No mess, no standing over a stove, and the texture is perfect for hummus. Plus the broth you get from cooking dried beans is basically liquid gold for soups or stews, which canned stuff just cant give you.

I mean yeah the $2 bag makes like 6 cans worth and the texture is way better for hummus.

Friend tried the dried bean route once. Got a big bag of chickpeas from the bulk store. Soaked them overnight, then boiled them for like two hours. The kitchen was a mess, steam everywhere. Ended up with mushy paste and a burned pot. Swears by canned stuff forever now.
