Had to pick between stainless steel and nonstick for my first real pan last month
I was standing in the aisle at Target with $40 in my pocket. Grabbed a stainless steel skillet and a nonstick one, both around the same price. Went with stainless because I heard it lasts longer. First week I burned eggs so bad I had to soak it for 2 days. But after watching a quick video on heating it right, it works fine now. Anyone else regret going stainless at first?

My $12 nonstick pan from Walmart is still going strong after 18 months. I scrape it with metal spatulas sometimes and the coating is fine. Never burned a single egg. Never had to watch a video. Just put it on medium heat and cook. Meanwhile my buddy bought stainless and spends half his life scrubbing stuff off it. Not everyone wants a project.

My 7 year old daughter's plastic spatula melted on my $10 pan last week and now it's got a weird bump I'm too lazy to deal with. But honestly, I'm with you on stainless steel being a whole other job you didn't sign up for. My brother has stainless and he spends more time scrubbing than he does eating, I'll take my cheap pan and a little melted bump any day.
