Finally got my rice to stop turning into a sticky mess after 3 tries
I was rinsing it like the internet says but it still came out gummy, turns out I was using too much water - dropped from 2:1 to 1.5:1 and it's fluffy now. Anyone else have a random ratio that works for your stovetop?

Did you try weighing the rice and water instead of using measuring cups? That's what fixed it for me. A kitchen scale is like 15 bucks and takes the guessing out completely. I use 180g of water for every 100g of rice and it comes out perfect every time, no rinsing even needed. The volume thing is too inconsistent because different rice grains pack differently in a cup.

My buddy Dave actually ruined his family's Thanksgiving rice a couple years ago because he tried that whole less water thing. He was bragging about how he saw some influencer say to just use less water and ignored all the other variables. @reesepatel is absolutely right about the weighing method, Dave got super dense sticky rice that night and his mom was so mad. The worst part was he had already thrown away the rice cooker insert instructions that had the exact water line measurements for his model. Now he just uses a $10 scale from Target like you said and hasn't messed up a single batch since. All because he thought less water was some kind of magic fix instead of just getting the ratio right from the start.
