Butter vs oil for grilled cheese, I finally picked a side
After 15 years of flipping between them, I landed on butter for the pan and a tiny splash of oil mixed in. The oil stops the butter from burning at medium heat, and the crust comes out even and golden. Anyone else do the hybrid or am I just overcomplicating a two-ingredient sandwich?

15 years of flipping between them" and you're just now landing on this? That's like admitting you spent a decade and a half arguing with yourself about which sock goes on first. But yeah, the hybrid is the smart play, I've been doing it for years and nobody can tell me different. Butter for flavor, oil for forgiveness, it's basically the grilled cheese version of having a backup plan. You're not overcomplicating it, you're just finally using your brain cells for something other than deciding if the bread should be sourdough or white.
