Burnt my chili so bad I had to throw out the pot

Was making a big batch of chili in my apartment in Austin last Tuesday, got distracted by a call from my landlord about the water heater. Left it on high for like 45 minutes and the bottom turned into a black crust that wouldn't scrub off. Had to toss my $30 pot from Target and order a new one on Amazon. Anyone else ever ruin a meal and a pan at the same time?

Did I accidentally invent a new kind of charcoal?

Used to think charcoal was pretty simple stuff - just burned wood, end of story. But then I tried making some with different hardwoods and realized the temp and airflow actually changes how it burns and what it leaves behind. Messed around with maple once and got this really light, crumbly charcoal that flared up way faster than regular oak stuff. Definitely not just burnt wood after you start experimenting with it.
