Burned my garlic bread so bad last night it set off the smoke alarm at 11pm

Used a new loaf from the bakery down the street. Thick sliced sourdough. Butter, garlic powder, parsley. Put it under the broiler like I always do. Got distracted scrolling my phone for maybe 2 minutes. Opened the oven to black crisps and smoke pouring out. My upstairs neighbor actually knocked to check if I was okay. Felt like an idiot scrubbing the char off my baking sheet this morning. Does anyone else have a foolproof method for broiled garlic bread that doesn't involve constant hovering?

Nah, joelp81, you're giving it too much credit. It was more of a spicy pillow situation than a fire hazard. The battery swelled up but never actually caught flame. Still not great, but not quite building-level drama.
