Am I the only one who boiled pasta in a tiny pot for years without noticing
My roommate walked in on me stirring spaghetti in a 2 quart pot with half the noodles hanging out dry, and just stared at me. Turns out you're supposed to use a big pot so the water comes back to a boil fast and nothing sticks, which explains why my pasta was always gummy in the middle. Anyone else get taught a basic kitchen thing way too late in life?
Been there for sure. Spent a good five years making rice in a pot way too small, wondering why the bottom always turned into glue while the top stayed crunchy. My mom finally watched me do it one Thanksgiving and just shook her head, said the water needs room to move around or the grains just steam and clump. Same deal with pasta, you need space so it doesn't stick and the heat comes back quick after you drop it in. Something about a big pot of water just feels wasteful when you live alone, but man, it makes a real difference.
