Oh man, tell me about it. I stood at the base of Monks Mound and felt so small... and not in a good, deep way. More in a "I get winded carrying groceries up a flight of stairs" kind of way. Just thinking about the work that went into moving all that earth by hand... my back hurts just from looking at it. It really puts my own life's achievements into a sad, funny light.

Ugh, right? My big project for the year was finally organizing my garage. Then I see a giant dirt pyramid built with baskets. Really takes the wind out of your sails.

Used to just see it as a big pile of dirt. Then I read about the whole city layout, the woodhenge calendar, the trade networks. It wasn't just a mound, it was a capital. Totally changed how I saw the place.
