The dig supervisor's trowel rule after that grid mixup in Cyprus

Last spring on a survey outside Paphos, we were marking a Roman floor and I kept shifting my trowel line to match what I thought was the wall edge. The supervisor pulled me aside and made me re-grid the whole 10 meter square because my angles were off by a few degrees, which threw off the photo logs for three days. Has anyone else had a site lead insist on a specific measuring habit that felt picky at first but actually saved your data later?
