That old bottle dump behind the county fairgrounds changed how I dig
I was poking around the overgrown lot behind the Union County fairgrounds last October and stumbled on a spot where someone had dumped trash from the 1920s. Found a half-buried milk bottle with the dairy's name still readable and it got me thinking about how everyday junk from a hundred years ago tells us more than fancy artifacts. Has anyone else had luck finding old household trash dumps in unexpected places?

The embossed ones are the real keepers for sure, they just don't quit.

That 1920s dairy bottle you found, did it have any embossed lettering or just the painted label? I've pulled a couple of those from similar dumps, and the painted ones almost always flake off the second you touch them, but the embossed ones hold up perfect. I'm curious if the dairy name was molded right into the glass or if it was just a sticker that survived because it was buried in some damp clay. That detail alone can tell you a lot about local bottling laws from back then, at least in my experience.
