My trowel snapped in half while digging a test pit yesterday
I was working on a small site survey near my town, carefully scraping away a layer of topsoil. The ground was full of old tree roots, and I put a bit too much pressure on the handle. It just gave way with a loud crack, leaving me holding half a trowel. I had to finish the square with my backup, a cheap hardware store one that just isn't the same. Has anyone else had a favorite tool fail at a bad time, and what did you replace it with?

A broken trowel is just a sign you were using it wrong. Good tools don't fail if you know what you're doing. That hardware store backup is probably fine, you just got used to a fancy one. People blame their gear instead of their own technique. A real pro can make any tool work.

Man, that's rough luck. I mean, sometimes stuff just breaks, even if you're being careful. My old favorite tape measure locked up for good right when I needed it most.

Good tools don't fail" is a nice idea, but even the best gear wears out, mason847. Stuff just breaks sometimes.
