I used to think ancient graffiti was just vandalism until I saw the Pompeii stuff in person
After seeing those election slogans and tavern ads scratched into walls from 79 AD, it hit me that these were real people with daily gripes just like us. Has anyone else had a similar moment where a site completely shifted how you see everyday objects from the past?

oh man that's exactly it... i've noticed this pattern where people think the past was this totally different world but then you find a shoe print or a kid's doodle and it's like oh wait they were just us with different tech. like those marks on medieval church walls where people scratched games or the old roman counting marks in caves... it's all just people trying to leave a mark or pass the time. makes you wonder what future people will think about our parking lot potholes or scratched up bathroom stalls you know?

Did you notice any of the specific insults or jokes in the graffiti that felt surprisingly modern, like someone complaining about bad food prices?
