Honestly still mad about this guy at the Mesa Verde dig last summer
We were working on a pottery shard analysis and this volunteer kept saying 'It's just old broken plates, why catalog every piece?' Tbh, he said it loud enough for the whole team to hear near the kiva site. It felt so disrespectful to the whole process. Has anyone else had to deal with someone who just didn't get why the small details matter?

Loud enough for the whole team to hear" is the worst part.

Honestly that's the best part for me. My old coach used to do that and it actually helped us focus.

And yeah the "loud enough for the whole team to hear" part is what gets me every time. I had this guy on a shell midden project in Florida who kept saying "why count every oyster shell, it's just garbage" right as we were doing the screening. Like, dude, these shells tell us how people ate, traded, even what season they were here. He would literally stand there sighing while we bagged each tiny piece. My supervisor finally pulled him aside and explained it's like reading a book by its pages, you need every page to get the story. He didn't stick around much longer after that (thank goodness).
