Am I the only one who uses old phone books to date bottle dumps?
I kept finding unmarked glass dumps on creek banks around Athens County and could not figure out how old they were, until a guy at the local historical society showed me the trick of matching town names in the embossed glass to when they show up in old city directories. Last month I dated a whole dump to 1911 just from a Dr. King's New Discovery bottle and a 1910 phone book entry. Has anyone else tried this with old catalogs instead of directories?
