Am I the only one who thinks the Clovis First theory got dismissed too fast?

Had a chat with an old archaeology professor at a diner last week who said the Monte Verde site was dated before they even properly tested the soil layers around Clovis points, and it made me wonder if we jumped the gun on rewriting prehistory. Anyone else think the push against Clovis First might be based on some shaky evidence too?

Used to be pretty skeptical of the whole idea, but that diner chat kinda shifted things for me. The professor made a good point about how fast we all jumped on the new evidence without double checking the old stuff.

Man, totally get what you're saying. Something similar happened to me a few years back when a buddy showed me a side-by-side comparison of old photos and modern ones. I used to take every new clear picture as gospel, but going back and really looking at the grainy ones from the past made me realize how much we fill in the blanks with what we want to see. For me, it helped to actually print out a couple of the old images and look at them in natural light, not just on a screen. It's easy to get swept up in a fresh argument, but slowing down and checking the original stuff yourself, it kind of grounds you. Your mileage may vary, but that's what helped me get past being purely skeptical.
