Trusted a stump grinder rep in Columbus, got burned badly

A sales rep from a big equipment dealer convinced me their mid-size grinder could handle the 30 inch oak stump I had in a tight yard near Westerville. He said 'it'll chew through that in 20 minutes easy' so I rented it for $185 and spent over 3 hours fighting it, plus it threw a belt. I should have stuck with my 60 hp tow-behind unit or just charged the client more for a bigger machine. Has anyone else had a rep oversell a rental that ended up costing you more time than it saved?

That rep probably never ran that machine on oak, let alone a 30 inch stump. Oak is a whole different beast than pine, and tight yards make every pass twice as hard. Next time, ask for a demo on site or at least talk to a guy who actually runs one, not the sales floor guy.
