Tree topping for views: I used to top, now I thin instead. Topping or thinning for you?

Our local arborist always says topping just makes a tree ugly and weak. Thinning is way better for its health long term.

Is that the big secret they learn in tree school?

My neighbor topped his oak and now it looks like a giant broccoli.
