TIL a trick for getting a clean cut on a tight limb over a roof

I was working on a silver maple in Springfield last week, and there was a 6-inch limb growing directly over a slate roof. I couldn't get a full undercut from below. On a hunch, I used my Silky Sugoi to make a deep plunge cut from the top, about two-thirds through, right where I wanted the final cut. Then I finished from underneath with the chainsaw and it popped off perfectly with zero bark tearing. Has anyone else tried a plunge cut like that in a tricky spot?

That's a smart move with the Sugoi. How deep did you go with that plunge cut before you felt it was safe to switch to the chainsaw from below?

Oh man, my buddy went about six inches deep before he chickened out and switched tools.

That plunge cut method makes me nervous on a roof that nice. Seen too many saws jump or pinch. Rosel50's buddy had the right idea to switch early, in my book.
