That time I trimmed a live oak in July and learned the hard way
Got called out to a job near Charleston last summer, cut a big branch that was too green, and the whole thing split right down the trunk, so now I only do major pruning during dormant season unless it's a safety hazard, anyone else had a tree fight back like that?

Was the bark already included in that split, or did it peel clean off?

My 2 cents: those bark inclusions on live oaks are basically a hidden crack ready to go. I trim around Charleston too, and if you don't catch that V-shaped seam early, the branch is just waiting to split on its own, even with a light cut.
