PSA: The old guy at the hardware store in Flagstaff was right about my pruning saw
I was buying a new blade and he asked to see my old one, then said 'You're pushing, not pulling. Let the teeth do the work.' I tried it on a big oak limb the next day and it cut twice as fast with half the effort. Anyone else have a simple tip that made a tool work way better?

That pull stroke advice works for hand planes too... you get way cleaner cuts letting the blade do the work. It's all about trusting the tool's design instead of forcing it. Old timers really do know their stuff.

But @nancy351, sometimes you gotta push hard to get through a tough knot, old designs can't handle everything.

My buddy snapped a chisel trying to muscle through some oak. I mean, he was so sure his way was faster. Watching him have to buy a new one really drove home that patience with the tool is cheaper.
