Crane ball came loose mid-lift, now I chain it off every time
Up in Tacoma last spring, we were setting a 60 foot maple over a client's garage when the crane ball slipped its shackle pin about 20 feet up. Nobody got hit, but the ball swung hard and cracked a gutter on the way down. The operator swore it was seated right, but I'd skipped double checking the cotter pin because I was in a rush. Now I always wire tie that pin after hookup, even if the operator says it's fine. Anyone else had a small rigging piece nearly take out a roof?
