Why does every second person on here think dryer vent cleaning is optional?

I pulled 14 feet of packed lint out of a single vent in Medford last Wednesday and the homeowner said her neighbor told her it wasn't necessary, has anyone else run into this dangerous advice?

Medford's got that valley dust problem too, so 14 feet sounds about right lol. The neighbor probably heard a dryer vent cleaning scam story and decided that was universal truth. What gets me is that people will spend $50 on a vent cleaning kit but won't pay a pro to actually clear the whole line, then act surprised when their dryer takes three cycles for one load. Dryer vents aren't like oil changes where you can just eyeball it and guess, the buildup hides in the wall and you don't see it until something catches fire.
