Serious question, did that tech at the parts counter really tell me to stop testing capacitors?
I was picking up a run cap at the supply house on Route 9 in Clifton Park and the guy behind the counter told a new kid that bench testing caps is a waste of time because "they either puff or they don't." That kind of shortcut talk bugs me because I have pulled plenty of caps that looked fine and read fine cold but fell on their face under load, and swapping parts blind costs the customer money. So my question is, how many of you actually test under load before you condemn a board, or am I the odd one out here?
