Question about the compressor test tip I heard at the parts counter in Boise
I was picking up a start relay at a parts counter in Boise last Tuesday and an old repair guy next to me said he always ohm-checks the compressor windings before he swaps any relay, saves him from eating the cost of a part twice. That stuck with me because I've been guilty of just swapping the relay and hoping. I tried it on my next call, a 12-year-old fridge, and sure enough the windings were way off and I almost sold the customer a relay he didn't need. How many of you run a full ohm check every time, or do you only do it when the first swap doesn't stick?
