Put a $12 supco relay on a fridge compressor and it ran backwards, what did I do wrong
So I had a Frigidaire side by side from around 2008 that kept tripping the overload every 20 minutes or so, classic bad start relay right? I ordered a Supco URCO410 universal relay because the factory part was on backorder for 3 weeks. Wired it up per the diagram, purple to start, black to common, and the compressor fired up but it was pulling almost double the rated amps and the suction line got hot instead of cold. Ran it for maybe 90 seconds before I killed power because something felt off, and when I pulled the relay the compressor was too hot to touch. Talked to a guy at my supply house in Boise and he said the run capacitor wiring on those universals can flip the start winding phasing if you don't match the cap to the original. Did I cook the windings or is there still hope for this compressor, and has anyone run into the Supco wiring chart being wrong on older Frigidaire units?
