Just had a Whirlpool washer door lock fail in a scary way
It was on a 2 year old model doing a heavy load, and the latch just snapped mid cycle, letting the door fly open. Water went everywhere in this customer's basement in Akron. I had to replace the whole lock assembly, part number W10835648. Has anyone else seen these new plastic latches give out so fast?

My sister's Whirlpool washer did the exact same thing last year, that plastic latch just shattered. It was only about 18 months old. We had a huge flood in her laundry room, ruined a bunch of boxes she had stored nearby. I ended up ordering that same part number and swapping it out for her. It's crazy they use such flimsy plastic for something that has to hold the door shut against all that spinning.

Yeah, that same part failed on mine last month. Replacing the whole assembly fixed it.

My neighbor's dryer made a noise like a bag of rocks last week. Turned out a shoe got wedged in the drum. Not the same thing, but it sure made a mess. Makes you wonder about all the plastic parts in these new machines. They just don't build them like they used to.
