Hit 1,000 completed dryer vent cleanings and the last one showed me something scary

I pulled a massive lint clog out of a unit in Phoenix yesterday, and when I counted my logbook it was number 1,000, but that success rate means I've probably missed clogs on 50 or more jobs before I got good at checking behind the drum, so has anyone else tracked their failure rate that way?

Oh wow, that's a really interesting way to look at it, but I gotta gently push back on the math there. You're treating every missed clog as a failure, but a lot of those early jobs were probably still fine. Dryer vents collect lint over time, so just because you didn't find a huge block doesn't mean you left a dangerous one behind. Missing a small clog that hasn't built up yet isn't the same as missing a big one that could start a fire. I'd say your real failure rate is way lower than 5%, probably more like 1% or 2% for truly dangerous stuff. The fact that you even track this and learn from it puts you ahead of most people in the trade. So don't be so hard on yourself, man.
