Customer handed me a 'fixed' dryer belt in a sandwich bag, need to vent about this one
Had a call last Tuesday in Tacoma. Woman said her dryer was loud, so her husband 'fixed' it by opening the panel and removing the broken belt. He wrapped it in a sandwich bag and handed it to me with a proud smile. Said, 'We saved you the trouble of diagnosing it.' The catch? They had been using the dryer like that for 3 weeks. Just throwing wet clothes in and running it on air fluff, hoping they'd dry. I had to explain that without a belt, the drum doesn't spin, and the heating element can still run, which is a fire risk. He looked at me like I was speaking another language. Has anyone else walked into a homeowners' DIY 'repair' that made the job worse, not better? How do you tell them politely they're lucky nothing caught fire?
