Started using a bokashi bin after my basement bin got infested

I was using a regular plastic bin with holes in my apartment near downtown Austin for about 4 months. Then I opened it one morning and found a whole colony of roaches living in the lid. Switched to a bokashi bin from a local gardening store and now I just dump the pre-compost in my friend's backyard pile every 3 weeks. Has anyone else had a bug problem with indoor worm bins?

Man, that "whole colony of roaches in the lid" part made me cringe. My buddy tried an indoor worm bin in his Houston apartment and had the same thing happen but with fruit flies. They were everywhere, like a tiny buzzing cloud every time he lifted the lid. He finally gave up and just started freezing his scraps before dumping them in the city compost.

Friend of mine tried an indoor worm bin once. He ended up with gnats so thick you couldn't see the bedding. He gave up too and now just does cold composting in his backyard.
