Spent $80 on a fancy bokashi bin and got nothing but mold

I bought a bokashi bin from a popular online store 3 months ago thinking it would be perfect for my tiny kitchen. Instead of fermenting my scraps, everything just grew fuzzy green mold after two weeks and smelled like rotten garbage. Has anyone else had bokashi fail on them or did I just get a dud?

Try checking if your bin was actually airtight enough. I've noticed a LOT of these trendy kitchen gadgets rely on cheap plastic parts that don't seal properly. Mold always wins when oxygen gets in, which is why my homemade bucket with a tight lid worked better than store bought.

Same cheap plastic issue with the seal?

Yeah I totally feel you on this. I had the same exact problem with my compost bin, the seal just didn't hold up after a few months. It started letting in air and moisture and before I knew it, everything was moldy and gross. It's frustrating because you pay extra for something that's supposed to be better quality, but it's still using the same cheap plastic parts. I've started to realize that a lot of these "premium" kitchen tools are just overpriced versions of the same basic stuff. Your mileage may vary obviously, but I've had better luck with simpler, sturdier designs that don't try to be fancy.
