Spent $60 on a countertop composter, now I smell coffee grounds at 2am
I got one of those electric dehydrator bins off Amazon last month for our studio in Chicago. It ran fine for two weeks, then the fan started sounding like a jet engine and the motor gave up mid-cycle. The kicker is the smell that came out when I opened it, it was like rotten fruit mixed with wet cardboard, way worse than my old bucket method. Do you all stick with manual bins or has anyone found an electric model that actually holds up past a month?
Calling it the "old bucket method" isn't quite right, because that's the one that actually works. Those electric bins just cook the scraps and seal in the moisture, so you get that rotten fruit and wet cardboard smell when you open the lid. Manual tumblers need a turn every couple days but they don't die on you or stink up the place.
