Showerthought: My 'odor-free' compost bin turned into a science project

I bought this fancy ceramic 'Urban Composter' for $75, thinking it was the magic answer. After two weeks, it started smelling like a swamp and I found a whole ecosystem of fruit flies living inside. Has anyone else had a bin that promised no smell but totally lied? What do you actually use that works?

Yeah, the "odor-free" promise is a total scam. My kitchen smelled like a forgotten gym bag after a week. I saw @andrew854 had the same letdown. These companies just sell a pretty bucket and hope you don't notice the swamp monster growing inside. My "science project" had more fuzzy colors than a kid's art class. Now I just use an old plastic tub with a lid and take it out more often.
