Showerthought: I was adding way too much water to my bokashi bin

My apartment smelled like sweet, rotten fruit for a month before I realized the scraps should be damp, not swimming. I was basically making pickles in there. How do you guys judge the right moisture level?

Squeeze a handful of scraps. If you get more than a couple drops, it's too wet.

Funny you say that @taylorhunt, because my buddy Dave thought he could skip the squeeze test and just toss everything in. He ended up with a bin that looked like a swamp and smelled like an old gym locker. Took him a month of adding dry leaves and paper to get it back to normal.

Honestly that squeeze test is the best way to check. Tbh I learned the hard way when my first bin turned into a soggy mess. Ngl it took weeks to fix that smell.
