PSA: I switched from a fancy countertop electric bin to a $4 plastic bucket with a lid
Bought a $90 electric composter last winter and it jammed on me twice, once with a banana peel. Now I use a plain 5 gallon bucket from Ace Hardware with a lid I drilled 8 holes into, and it has zero smell after 2 months. The electric one needed carbon filters every 3 weeks, the bucket just needs a scoop of sawdust from my neighbor's woodshop. I keep it under the sink in my Denver apartment and my roommate still doesn't know it's there. Anyone else find the cheap version works better than the thing with a plug?
