Pro tip: I spent 6 months piling in citrus peels before a friend pointed out they were killing my worm bin's pH.
It clicked when I pulled a handful of compost and it smelled like a sour lemon mixed with rotten eggs - has anyone else accidentally sabotaged their bin with too much acidic stuff?

Had a buddy who loaded his bin with a ton of coffee grounds and citrus peels because he thought worms loved the strong smell. He was bragging about how much he was feeding them until he opened it up one day and the whole thing smelled like a rotting fruit salad. The worms were all balled up in the corners trying to escape, and the pH test strips showed it was crazy acidic. He had to scoop out all the slimy mess and start fresh with shredded cardboard and eggshells to fix it. Took him two months to get the bin back to normal, and now he only adds citrus once a month at most.
