Overheard a neighbor in my building say her bin only gets coffee grounds and eggshells
She said she doesn't bother with veggie scraps or fruit peels because they get too wet and start smelling after like 3 days. I always thought you needed a good mix of greens and browns for it to work, but she's been doing this for 2 years and says hers stays dry and never smells. Makes me wonder if I'm overcomplicating things with my layers of shredded paper and all that. Anyone else just stick to mostly coffee stuff and eggshells?

Read somewhere that coffee grounds are actually full of nitrogen already so they can handle being the main green in a bin. Eggshells dry things out and add calcium so that combo makes sense for keeping moisture down. Maybe the trick is just finding a balance that works for your specific setup without overthinking it.
