Glossy ads ruin soil? That's crazy.

My grandma always used torn-up newspaper in her compost pile out back. She said it soaks up extra liquid from food scraps, which stops the bad smells. I tried it in my small bin on the balcony, and it really cuts down on fruit flies too. You can also use cardboard egg cartons or dry leaves if you run out of paper. Just make sure to avoid glossy ads because the ink might not be good for the soil. It's a simple trick that turns waste into something useful for the garden.

Yep, shredded cardboard works great too, just pull off any tape first.
