My worm bin went from stinky to zero smell after I stopped adding coffee grounds

Last week I finally figured out why my 5-gallon bin in my Brooklyn apartment kept reeking. I was dumping in 2 cups of used coffee grounds every morning because I thought they were good for the worms. Turns out they were getting too wet and acidic, so the whole thing turned sour. I cut them out completely and added a layer of shredded cardboard, now it smells like dirt after 4 days. Has anyone else had the same issue with coffee or did I just overdo it?

Calling it "backfiring" assumes we know what they were actually trying to do. Maybe the real goal was always to get people talking, and this did exactly that.
