My bokashi bucket started leaking black liquid all over my kitchen floor last night

Came home from work and smelled something funky. Opened the cabinet and there was a puddle of that sour leachate spreading under the bucket. I think I overfilled it with too many wet scraps like watermelon rinds. Had to mop everything twice and dump the whole thing into a contractor bag. Anyone else have their bokashi system fail on them like this and find a fix?

Drained mine way too fast once and it did the same thing, total mess. What worked for me was layering dry stuff like shredded newspaper between the wet scraps to soak up the extra moisture. Also started leaving the spigot slightly open over a tray so it doesn't build up pressure.

I mean, I used to think newspaper layers were overkill but that leak changed my mind for sure.
