My bokashi bin started smelling like a frat house basement

I tried that 'just add more bran' trick everyone swears by but after 3 weeks my tiny NYC apartment smelled like stale beer and dirty socks. Turns out I was sealing the lid too tight and the anaerobic bacteria went wild. Anyone else have to crack their bin open every few days to keep the smell down?

Yep, had the exact same issue with my first batch. Letting a little air in saved my whole system.

Ugh, @uma_baker99 I was totally the opposite on this before. Used to think you had to seal everything tight or it would fail, but watching a friend's setup thrive with a tiny vent changed my whole view. Definitely makes me rethink my own starting points for the next round
