My bin stopped smelling once I quit adding citrus peels, weirdest fix ever

After 4 months of fighting a sour stink in my tiny Chicago kitchen, I cut out orange and lemon rinds and the odor vanished in a week, so is there a real reason people keep pushing them in every beginner guide?

Hear me out, maybe the citrus wasn't the problem at all. Could be you changed something else around the same time and just blamed the peels, like maybe you cleaned the bin deeper or switched bag brands. Idk, correlation isn't causation and all that. Plus those oils in the rinds are natural degreasers, so they should help break stuff down, not make it worse. Maybe your bin was just holding onto old smells from something else that finally air out. I mean, I've had bins that reek for months and then just randomly stop, so I wouldnt toss the citrus advice just yet.
