I added too much fruit to my compost and now fruit flies are everywhere. Oops!

Hey, when you said you added too much fruit, that's kinda off. Fruit flies aren't about the amount, they come if the fruit isn't buried under brown stuff like leaves. They just love any sweet thing left out in the open. I always mix my kitchen scraps deep into the pile and add extra cardboard on top. It keeps the flies away and helps the compost break down better.

Those cardboard pieces you add on top, how small do you tear them up? I've tried whole sheets but they just blow away. Do you wet them down so they mat together, or are they dry when you lay them over the scraps?
